To Hell and Back

Hell hath no fury like a Gideon scorned.

Gideon Goode is clever as the devil and twice as pretty. He even has the t-shirt to prove it. When the coven takes down a den of demons, it’s him they turn to in order to clean up the mess. While they search for a permanent solution, Gideon uses his power over memory to trap the beasts, caging them within the very humans they possessed.

But the search for the right spell eludes the coven, much to Gideon’s chagrin. The continuous enchantments siphon off his magic, causing him to grow weaker as time passes. Sexual healing helps, but he’s mateless and there’s only so much random d*ck he can take before that gets old. Not that he’d admit that to anyone. He has a rep to maintain.

The instant someone starts killing off his prisoners, Gideon senses it. The coven goes on high alert to search for who’s targeting their otherwordly captives, but not before Lucifer gets involved—and—Gideon’s mates show up in town.

What’s a boy to do but to go to Hell and back to protect what’s his?

Sunday Spotlight - Stephani Hecht and Baily's Ninth Life (The Lost Shifters, Book 33)

Welcome Stephani Hecht back to Sunday Spotlight! She's here sharing her soon to release book, Baily's Ninth Life (The Lost Shifters, Book 33)

* * * *

Baily learned to distrust other shifters through their treatment of him. As a housecat shifter, he’s not exactly the strongest shifter. To compensate, he’s become one of best soldiers for the Coalition. He’s made a place for himself with friends but he doesn’t truly believe they won’t turn on him.

Caden learned to distrust other shifters from birth. His grandfather taught him and his brother to avoid all Packs, Clowders, and Coalitions no matter what. All those lessons will be challenged when a stray cat claims a spot in his bar and maybe his heart. Together,

Baily and Caden, must re-learn the lessons of their lives. That not all shifters are against them. A trip with the leadership of the Coalition to a secret cabin might be the turning point. That maybe they can believe in other shifters, each other and love.

Excerpt:

Baily fumed as he let the lesser hottie treat his wounds. Meanwhile, he glowered at hottie number one as he thought about all the mean things he wanted to say to him once he got his damn collar off. And there was plenty Baily had to say.

First off, it didn’t matter that he was a Cat shifter. He could kick ass with the best of them, thank you very much. Sure he may not be able to shift and rip the throats of their enemies out, but he was one of the best sharpshooters in the Coalition. Something that had taken hours of practice to earn.

Secondly, he was not mangy. Okay, maybe he did look a bit on the rough side, but he’d been through some pretty tough shit. First, that stupid Frog captured him, then it hadn’t been easy going since he’d escaped. For some insane reason, it seemed as if every shifter in the city was hunting him down.

All of that had reduced Baily to hiding in the shadows, dumpsters and dark corners as he tried to make his way back to the Coalition. Then he’d happened upon the bar. When he’d caught a whiff of feline rolling off the bartender taking out the trash, Baily had dashed inside. He’d hoped the guy would be able to get in touch with Mitchell. Baily had heard rumors of two feline shifters who owned a bar in the city.

Instead, the bartender ended up not knowing Mitchell at all. Which made perfect fucking sense, since the only luck Baily had been having lately had been the shitty kind. That’s when he remembered that the rest of the rumors about how the bar owners were skittish around other shifters and didn’t interact with them at all. So, they probably hadn’t ever met Mitchell at all.

“Caden, are you sure you don’t want to take him in and get him fixed?” asked the younger brother.

As if! Baily had to pull in the urge to bite the dick’s finger off. He only refrained because Caden was pretty damn hot and he probably wouldn’t like it if Baily maimed his brother. But that didn’t stop Baily from hissing at the jerk.

“I don’t think he likes the idea,” Caden said. “Maybe, you should stop suggesting it, Jozef.”

If Baily could have, he would have given a sly grin. Then Jozef poked at his side and Baily let out a yelp. Damn it, that hurt. He’d gotten it when he’d crawled through a broken window to get away from those weird bird shifters. They’d been the worst when it came to hunting him down. It was almost as if they had some special recipe they were dying to make and the secret ingredient was Baily tail.

To make sure that Jozef got the message loud and clear that there would be no snipping of any body parts, Baily swiped his paw out and hit the male in his thigh. It wasn’t exactly the target Baily was aiming for, but it still got his point across. Jozef let out a yelp as he jumped back, his brown eyes wide in shock.

“What the fuck? Are you sure this thing isn’t a shifter?” Jozef demanded.

“I’m pretty sure, but you’re the one who should know for sure. You almost graduated from college to be a vet, not me,” Caden replied, his voice breathless because he was laughing so hard.

Jozef stooped down so he could look Baily directly in the eyes. Baily tried his best to make his expression as human as possible. If he could get these two lone shifters to believe he really was a shifter then maybe they would contact the Coalition for him. Then they could send for help and he could go home. Although, it would be a damn shame to have to leave Caden behind. Then again, there was nothing that said Baily couldn’t come back to visit the sexy bartender.

“Shift for me,” Jozef commanded.

Baily huffed in irritation. Didn’t they see the damn anti-shifting collar on his neck? Then a horrifying thought occurred to Baily. What if they didn’t know about the collars and the power they had over Baily? Oh, shit. That would not be good for him. Then they would think he was a regular cat for sure and no help would be coming Baily’s way.

It wasn’t as if Baily could just pick up a pen or pencil either. Cats didn’t have any thumbs. Which meant he couldn’t write a letter. He thought frantically for another way to communicate. He recalled reading a book by Dean Koontz where a genius dog communicated with Scrabble tiles, but Baily didn’t see one of those games lying around. So, unless he managed to find a computer and could log on, he was screwed.

“Nope, he’s not a shifter. Just a weird-o,” Jozef proclaimed as he straightened up.

Oh, just you wait until I get this damn collar off. Then we’ll see who the weird-o is, you son-of-a-bitch. I’ll kick your ass from here to Pontiac. Then you’ll be sorry for calling me mangy and threatening to cut my balls off.

Then Caden came over and began to stroke Baily’s head and all his dark thoughts floated away. Normally, he hated it when others petted him that way. It reminded him that he wasn’t a true predator, but a domestic pet. It made him feel weak and a joke. Yet, when Caden did it, Baily wanted to purr and rub himself all over the bartender. He even smelled nice. Like a warm whiskey with some spices mixed in. Which was odd that Baily found so appealing given that shifters didn’t drink that kind of stuff.

“You almost seem disappointed,” Jozef remarked.

“I’m not. Besides, it’s not like I could have done anything even if was a shifter. You know the rules, we don’t make nice with other shifters,” Caden replied, still stroking Baily’s fur.

That was an odd statement. It made Baily wonder what happened in their past that made them so leery of others of their own kind. At first, he’d just assumed they were Lost Shifters, part of the generation of felines who’d been lost over two decades ago during the Great Raven Attack. Now he wasn’t so sure. By the way, they were talking, he had a feeling there was a lot more to their story.

Sunday Spotlight - Lisa Oliver and the Cub and His Alpha (The Alpha and Omega Series, 7)

Welcome Lisa Oliver back to Sunday Spotlight. Today she's haring a bit from her bran new release, The Cub and His Alpha (The Alpha and Omega Series, 7)

Twenty-three year old bear shifter, Daniel Borden had his life crash around his ears at the tender age of fifteen when his parents were killed in a car accident. Struggling to control his shifts during puberty, Daniel left the foster care home he'd been placed in the day he turned eighteen. Thankfully, his parents left him well provided for and he was able to realize his dream—owning a safe place to call his own. Now an international best-selling author, Daniel hides behind his computer, convinced his life is fine just the way it is. Unfortunately, his only vice—a love of wild blueberries—changes his life in ways he'd only dreamed of.

Zeke McIntyre and Ty Hollifield are two Kodiak bear shifters who've spent ten years on the road, looking for their elusive third. Determined to allow the hand of fate to guide them, they end up in a "blink and you miss it" town all because of a white picket fence. Deciding to take the time to stretch their legs and let their long suffering bear forms free, Ty and Zeke spend their days wandering about in their fur in the nearby forest and loving on each other the way mated bears do. Until a brief hint of an alluring scent in the air, guides them to the one they've been looking for.

And you'd think, that would be the end of the story. But it isn't. The older Kodiaks arrival in Daniel's life brings out issues he'd never had to face head on before. Convinced by his mates to attend a writer's conference in Roswell, and unwilling to let his mates down, Daniel has to face the fears that kept him hidden in his lovely house. Will he ever learn to trust the safety that could be found in his lovers' arms, or will he be going home alone?

The Cub and his Alphas is an MMM standalone story that includes minimal violence and some coarse language. Intimate descriptions of the three men together are also included so this book is suitable for adults only. This is a low angst, complete, sweet bear story, although the epilogue suggests a sequel with a secondary character.

Approx 47,000 words (147 pages).

Excerpt

Daniel chuffed as he rubbed his furry back in the long grass, his face turned up to the afternoon sun. Berry bushes, berry bushes as far as the eye could see. Well, they were all Daniel could see, given he was splat dang in the middle of them. Heaven, heaven, heaven, he sung in his mind, reaching out with his long claws to snag the nearest branch. How fucking lucky am I, he wondered as he smashed a paw-load of blueberries in his mouth.

The run was a spontaneous thing. Daniel was, as a rule, a quiet young man who spent most of his days on the computer writing his latest novel. But today the lure of the sunshine, and a nagging feeling his latest book wasn’t going the way it was meant to, saw him taking the four mile drive to his local forest for a bit of a stretch. He had planned on fishing in his furry form, but his nose caught the whiff of ripened fruit and suddenly fish didn’t seem as appetizing to his long bear nose.

La, la, la. Daniel swiped more blueberries with his other paw, well aware his golden fur was being stained blue. Two paw lots, yeah. One lot in my mouth, two lots in my mouth and so much more for me to munch. He could feel the juices smushed under his nose and dribbling down his chin, but with the sound of the babbling creek he’d planned to fish tickling his ear, Daniel didn’t care. He could wash up before he trundled home. The birds were singing, the sun was hot on his fur and the berries were sweet.

Hang on a minute. Daniel tensed and twitched his ears. The birds had been singing, but they were silent now. Seconds later he heard the snap of a breaking twig and the thump of footsteps from a being far heavier than him reverberated up his spine.

Fuck, fuck, fuck, I should have known it was too good to be true. Daniel rolled onto his feet, his fur quivering. Blueberries did grow wild in his part of the world, but what were the chances the perfectly spaced bushes occurred naturally? He was poaching in someone else’s patch and as the thuds got closer, Daniel panicked. He didn’t know of any other bear shifters in the tiny town of Edendale, but that didn’t mean there weren’t any. He barely went out.

The bushes to his right rustled and Daniel didn’t stick around to find out who he’d pissed off. In bear terms, he was still a cub, only twenty three, and whoever was coming was bigger than him – which took some doing but was possible. Never get between a bear and his food. Why his mother’s sage piece of wisdom chose to flow through his mind now, Daniel didn’t stop to find out. Pushing through the bushes to his left, Daniel put on a burst of speed, running blindly back to where he’d left his car.

Hearing a growl behind him, Daniel risked a quick look over his shoulder. Two of them, double fuck. Daniel didn’t fight – ever. He liked to joke he was a lover not a fighter, but he was lacking lover experience as well. And if those two lumbering brutes behind him caught up with him, he’d never get a chance to make his dreams a reality.

Got to get to the car, got to get too… shit. Bursting through the tree line, Daniel could have slapped himself for his stupidity, except his paws were too busy trying to put more distance between himself and the bears chasing him. His brand new bright red Prius sat mocking him on the side of the road. Running towards it, Daniel risked another look back. The massive black bears were just coming through the last of the trees. I don’t have time to fucking shift.

With a lingering whimper as he ran around his car, Daniel took off down the road. His chest was heaving, and the pavement was scorching his paw pads, but Daniel couldn’t afford to stop. He’d come back for his car, his phone, his keys, his wallet and everything else he’d left in his ‘too-small-for-his-bear-form’ vehicle later – a lot later when hopefully the bears chasing him would be gone. I knew I should have bought a truck. It was going to be a long run home.

NEW RELEASE: Bitten by Midnight (Midnight Mississippi, Book 4) is here!

The neverending book is FINALLY here! The planned 35,000K story grew to over 66,000 ~ And release had to be pushed back not once, but twice...

Bitten by Midnight
Midnight Mississippi, 4

Kane doesn’t much like the idea of becoming a member of the King’s Guard through default. He’s much more interested in remaining on the taskforce he’s already on—an elite group of Midnight police who hunt the things that nearly killed him twenty years before.

The things that did kill his entire family. And left him as a Halfling vampire.

He’s vowed to destroy every vampire in Midnight, eager for vengeance.

During one of the taskforce's raids—the one that garnered him his berth as a guardsman—he comes across a man bitten all to hell by the vamps. Kane instantly recognized him as a mate. The king’s uncle, Ralnur, is close to death when Kane carries him from the nest, terrifying an already shaken Halfling.

Seeing a mate as a weakness, Kane refuses to make the claim—but he will save the man’s life the only way he knows how. By making Ralnur the very thing he hunts.

As he runs from the attraction he feels, fate steps in and hurtles him into a meeting with his second mate. He’s assigned to protect the researcher tasked with finding out who turned the king’s uncle into a vampire.Kane refuses to endanger Ralnur and Caelian by bringing them into his life and the battle he wages against the undead.

No matter how much the instinct demands he mark them with his bite.

Caelian sat across from him. “I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours.”
Kane smiled.
“Both my parents were mixed race. My mother was Nymph, Human, and Fae. My father was Elvish, Human, and Witch. I’m basically a mutt, but mostly Human. Impure blooded and not accepted by any of them.”
Kane winced. He understood being ostracized. Many residents of Midnight didn’t care for vamps. And the combos explained a lot. Caelian was much too tall to be all Elf and too good looking not to have a little Fae blood. Witch made sense with those wards. The nymph part was interesting. Could be why the guy was showing off his body and throwing come hither looks over the table as he made his plate.
Come hither looks were going to become harder and harder to ignore as the night progressed.
“So, how do you do it?”
“Do what?” Kane asked as he made his plate.
“Not drink blood.”
Kane sensed the amulet sitting on his chest. “Ancient secret.”
“Oh come on!” Caelian lowered his plate to the table. “I said I’d share if you did.”
“I didn’t agree to those terms,” Kane said before lifting a bit of the stew to his lips. “Oh, damn. That isgood.”
Caelian watched him for a moment. “I didn’t know Halflings ate real food.”
“We don’t eat. Much.” Kane eyed him. “Just enough to get by.”
Caelian didn’t respond. Nor did he say much as they ate. Kane packed it in, his hunger monumental. He could feel the elfling’s stare on him as he ate. Once they were done and had cleaned up the mess, Kane noted it was nearly eleven.
“What time do you usually get up and head over to the archive?” Kane asked.
“About seven,” Caelian said. “The walk’s not far from here.”
“I suppose you should get some rest then,” Kane said, looking around. “I can head outside and guard the door while you sleep.”
He rose from the table and headed toward the door.
“Don’t go,” Caelian said, rising.
As Kane turned around, he watched the towel drift to the floor. His stare moved down, and he got the first look at his elf.
Allof his elf.
Caelian was… gorgeous. And Kane wanted to lick every square inch of the man. More than once. Caelian’s hard cock jutted before him, leaking a tiny bit of jizz.
“Stay,” Caelian murmured. “I’d rather notbe alone.”
Kane felt his cock screaming its approval of that idea. He took a step closer, need propelling him forward.
Mine.
Kane lifted his stare away. I can’t touch him.
I’m here to guard him. Protect him. I can’t do that in his bed.
He dragged his gaze away, willing himself enough strength to say no. “I’ll be just outside.”
Kane could see the disappointment in Caelian’s golden gaze.
Don’t worry, Caelian. I’m just as disappointed.
He moved outside the doors, the soft click of the knob a welcome sound. His body raged under that golden armor of his, his heart slamming against his ribcage.
A heartbeat.
Hunger.
Lust.
What the hell is happening to me?

Sunday Spotlight - Hayden West and Claiming the Throne

Welcome Hayden West back to Sunday Spotlight -- they're sharing a bit from the new release, Claiming the Throne (The Prince's Mate, 3)

****

Zach Adan wasn't sure he would have survived this long, being thrust into this world he'd never believed had even existed, he was now a key player in this world.

Prince Chamber Sept Mallo, Chase to everyone else, has finally returned home to claim his throne. He's also brought his mate with him. It wasn't going to be as simple as that, however, as there are still those who want him dead, as well as his mate. Will he be able to keep not only his own throne but also his mate?

Chapter One

Chase yawned as he rolled over, a slight smile turning up his lips at the hard body of his mate and lover lying there beside him. Right now everything was quiet. He had no problem hearing the soft snores from Danny, Zach’s brother from the next tent over where the others slept.

He’d refused to budge on Zach and he sleeping away from one another. Chase needed the comfort, the touch. And so did his wolf.

It wasn’t about the sex right now, it was about the tactile satisfaction.

They had thrown up camp after returning to his lands. He’d not wanted to go home yet, even though his presence would have been sensed.

The breathing of his lover changed and he knew then, Zach had awakened.

“Morning.”

While he didn’t pull away, the man stiffened and that was a dagger to the heart in itself. I suppose I should be happy he didn’t pull away. But the sad truth was, he wasn’t. This, whatever the hell it was between them, the rift, it was sort of felt as if it were growing and set him more and more on edge.

Since the conversion, Zach had changed. In more ways than he’d initially believed. And he wasn’t coming back to his old self. Yes, being forced to become a shifter, couldn’t be easy. He got that.

Chase had been born one. And of the royal line at that so he had it easy, his body and wolf were one complete unit. Two parts of the same whole.

He understood—on some level—it wasn’t the easiest for Zach and it killed him to be unable to make it smoother for him.

Reaching for his mate, his wolf calmed the moment they had skin to skin contact. So did he. Zach remained facing away from him. Chase didn’t care, right now he wanted to touch.

“I thought we had to go.”

Chase curved and arm around the man beside him, drawing near.

“We have time.”

For a moment, Zach relaxed. In the blink of an eye he had pulled away and was across the tent. Chase sat, mind cataloging everything. The fear, anger, and uncertainty in his eyes along with the wildness that reined unchecked.

In slow, increments awareness crept back in. “I should check on Danny.”

Chase nodded, well aware telling Zach that Danny was safe with the others wouldn’t go over well. His foster brother was a sensitive spot as well as an extremely volatile one.

“Let’s go then.” Chase reached for his jacket and shoes. They finished at the same time and Chase trailed him out of the tent, closing the flap behind him.

The cold mountain air cut through his exposed skin, making him glad they had the tents. Sure, he could have stayed in the nearest town but he preferred the outdoors, like most shifters.

He cracked his neck and rolled his shoulders as his lieutenants and best friends exited their tent. No Danny.

Trey met his questioning gaze with a smile. “He’s still sleeping.”

Zach pushed into the tent and Chase didn’t look away until his mate had vanished.

“How’s Danny holding up?”

He almost missed the shuttered expression on Trey’s face that lingered ever so briefly.

“Exhausted. Slept like a man who’d been awake for days without any shuteye. He’s worried about his brother on top of that and that’s not helping.”

And you’re concerned for him.“For good reason.” He cast a glance back to the tent. “He and his wolf are at war. They’ve not come to peace yet.”

“Are you sure they will?” Victor asked.

“No, but I have to hope that it come to pass. The crone said he would be a monster. I don’t want to have to kill my mate.”

“Could you?” Trey posed the question, crouching to build up the fire.

“Pack comes first. It’s my fault the wolf is in him. I will deal with the consequences.” He acknowledged he hadn’t answered the question because in all honesty, he didn’t think he would be able to kill his own mate. That’s not how it worked, die for him? In a heartbeat. But to take his life from him? That was doubtful.

I would be a shell of a man if it came to that but I have to do what is best for the Pack. That’s how it’s always been and how it will always be.

Victor grunted and went to pull a pot form the back of the vehicle. Soon water heated for coffee and they had food cooking soon after.

Chase was drinking his second cup of coffee when Zach and Danny emerged from the tent. His mate appeared calm and for a moment it irritated him that another male could—and did—provide that for him. Reining in both his anger and the wolf, he met both of their gazes.

“There’s coffee and food. We’re leaving in twenty minutes.”

He turned to face Trey. His righthand man never wasted time just crouched beside him, a stick in one massive hand.

“Are we heading straight in?”

He drained his coffee, swallowed, then placed the mug in the snow. “Yep. My uncle has to know I’m already on my way. Given so does everyone else, he won’t do anything aside from welcoming me home with open arms. He will want everyone think he was in support of my claiming the throne before he tries to have me step down for being unmated.”

“And when he finds out?”

“He’ll try to kill me.” Try being the operative word.

“Who’s trying to kill you?” Danny stood near them both.

Cutting his eyes to the right, he ran an impartial skim over the man who was his brother-in-law. Or would be once they were officially wed. to him, Danny was family already as he and Zach were mated.

“My uncle.” He shared a look with Trey and pushed to his feet. “He wants the throne.”

Danny shook his head. “I thought our family was odd.”

“Royal politics suck.” Beyond Danny, Zach worked with Victor on loading up the SUV with all of their tents and other gear. “When we get there, stay close to Trey, Victor, or Harry. Don’t go wandering around alone.”

“I’m not in line for the throne.”

“You’re human. Most of my kind have little to no use for your kind.”

“Swell. So he’ll be fine?”

Chase didn’t have to ask which “he” Danny asked about.

“No, he won’t go anywhere alone either.”

“He’s not going to like that.”

“Zach can be pissed all he wants. My goal is to keep him alive.”

Danny walked closer so there was very little space between them. His wolf snarled low but other than being alert, did nothing.

“Is that because he means so much to you personally or because of what he means to your throne?”

His wolf didn’t take to much offense to that, he was actually impressed by Danny’s fortitude. Chase blinked slowly, careful to keep his wolf at bay and calm, not wanting Zach to fly into protective mode. He wasn’t sure how much, or rather, how little would set him off.

“The crown and throne are a result of my status. It is what it is. I wasn’t looking for a mate when I met Zach. However, he is my mate and the most important thing in my life, make no mistake.”

“All I care about is his happiness. When this is over, I will be back to my life of surfing and jet setting. I need to know he’s in the best possible hands.”

Trey tensed briefly, his attention on the woods to the left. Chase didn’t shift his attention from Danny, aware of everything around them.

“He is in the best possible hands. Mine.”

Is everything okay, Trey?

His lieutenant didn’t provide a verbal response, merely a sharp nod of his head.

“Let’s move,” he called out, needing to have Zach out of danger.

Probably shouldn’t bring him to the royal house then.Ignoring his inner commentary, he shoved his hands in his front pockets.

The urgency in his tone couldn’t be missed. At the royal house his father may want to kill him bur the most part they should be safe there. Unless things had completely changed since he had left.

If I ignore the fact I’m bringing in a human and my mate who is considered an abomination from the forced conversion. Yeah, we’ll be fine.

At the vehicle, he and Victor took the front. Trey had the back with Harry while Zach and Dann were in the middle.

Victor drove. Chase wasn’t going to argue, he was the best driver. He’d grown up on the track and could drive anything with a wheel. Hell, not only with a wheel, anything that moved.

Sunday Spotlight: Storm Glenn and Mark of an Alpha

Welcome Stormy Glenn back to Sunday Spotlight. She's here to share a bit from her new release, Mark of an Alpha.

All Xias wanted to do was find a safe place for him and his cubs. With his alpha chasing after him, intent on taking one of his cubs and killing the others, racing through a blizzard in the middle of the night seemed like a good idea. He had no idea when he took shelter in a cave during a blizzard that he had found more than a place to rest. He'd found the one man determined to protect him and his cubs.

Zhuang wasn't on the run exactly, but avoiding his father's demand that he start his own clan sent him into the mountains where he couldn't be reached. When he takes shelter in a cave during a snow storm, he finds his mate and a whole lot more. He also discovers that protecting his mate means changing his entire way of life.

But even going to the shifter council won't keep them safe because the alpha who is after Xias is determined to have him, even if he has to kill everyone standing in his way. Zhuang's only hope in saving his new family is in becoming the alpha his father always wanted him to be.

STORY EXCERPT
"Come on, babies, just a little farther."Xias was lying through his teeth, but the cubs didn't need to know that. The longer they could remain blissfully ignorant of the danger they were in, the better.
He nudged one with his nose when it started to fall behind the other two. He knew there was a cave close by. He'd scouted it out while the cubs were still sleeping, but with the snow coming down so hard he could barely see a step in front of him, he was starting to wonder if he'd ever find it again.
The blizzard had come out of nowhere, hard, cold, and dangerous. Xias knew if he didn't find shelter for him and the cubs soon, they'd be lost in the flurry of bitter cold snow. They'd freeze to death by morning for sure.
Maybe he should have left the cubs behind where they would have been warm and dry. Xias quickly dismissed that idea. His heart ached just thinking about it. Everything in him balked at the idea of anything happening to his cubs.
They were his babies. He had carried them for four months, given birth to the three darling little fur balls. Just because clan law stated they belonged to their sire, didn't make it so, especially when the bastard decided to put two of them to death because they hadn't been born male.
Xias grew enraged every time he remembered his alpha's declaration that two of his cubs were defective. His cubs were precious, each and every one of them. He didn't care if they were boys or girls or purple penguins. They were his cubs and he'd fight to the death to defend each and every one of them.
Which was what had led him to where he found himself now. Racing through a blizzard with his cubs as he tried to find a place to wait out the storm and escape from the alpha intent of killing everything he held dear.
Xias jumped forward when Bai, the oldest of his litter of three cubs, tripped and went face first into a snow drift. He gently grabbed the cub by the back of his neck and lifted him out, giving him a little shake to get some of the snow off of him.
He set Bai on the ground and then nudged him up to his sisters, Liang and Ying. They needed to keep going. If they didn't find that cave, they would perish out here in the snow, which was getting deeper by the second. The snow was coming down in thick plumes.
"Come on, keep moving."
Xias had just about given up hope of ever finding the cave when he spotted a familiar looking rock outcropping. He was almost giddy as he herded the three cubs toward the towering wall of rock.
"Keep going, babies. The cave is just ahead."
By the time they climbed up the rock outcropping and moved toward the cave entrance, the cubs were barely moving, sluggish. Xias knew once they got warmed up and had something to eat, and then got some sleep, they would be fine.
When they reached the mouth of the cave, Xias stepped forward and drew in a lungful of air. He needed to make sure no one had found the cave and taken up residence before he was able to bring the cubs back. He didn't want to escape one dangerous situation only to take his cubs into another one.
When he didn't smell any other scent than his from inside the enclosed space, Xias urged the cubs in through the narrow opening. It was dark inside, but that was no surprise. It was a cave after all. Xias led the cubs over to the far wall, away from the cave opening.
He laid down, smiling when his cubs hurried over to him. In a matter of moments, they were snuggling in, each cub latching on to a teat. Xias began to purr as he fed his babies, leaning down to lick the snow off of each of them in turn.
By the time they were clean and dry, their little tummies were rounded with milk and their eyes were drifting closed. Xias continued to purr until they curled together in a kitten pile and nodded off.
He laid there for a few minutes, soaking in the peacefulness of the moment. There was just something about providing for his cubs that filled him with a calmness he couldn't find anywhere else. The world around him could go to hell as long as he had his cubs right by his side.
Xias glanced up toward the entrance of the cave when he heard a noise. He couldn't quite place what had made that sound, but it raised his hackles. He extracted himself from his cubs and climbed to his paws.
When he heard the noise again, Xias took a few steps forward, placing himself between the cubs and whatever was outside the cave entrance. When the strong, unmistakable scent of an alpha male floated into the cave, Xias thought his heart was going to burst with fear.
Alpha males were known to kill cubs not their own, especially those with crystal blue eyes. They saw them as threats. It didn't matter if the cubs were in their territory or not, it was instinctual to try and eliminate all threats to their rule and the succession of their own offspring.
He tried not to whimper when what was quite possibly the largest white Siberian tiger he had ever seen stepped through the opening. There was no way Xias could ever beat this tiger in a fight. The large feline easily had three hundred pounds on him, most of it muscle mass.
Xias shot his cubs a desperate look. They were partially hidden behind a small outcropping of rock. Maybe the tiger wouldn't see them. Xias could only pray they stayed asleep because he could think of only one way to keep the large cat from attacking.

ADULT EXCERPT
Xias shuddered when fur brushed against his hip. He could do this, no matter how much of his soul it destroyed. He'd been doing it since the moment he shifted for the very first time and his alpha discovered he was an omega snow leopard.
He squeezed his eyes closed at the heavy sniffing. He knew his body was preparing itself, growing slick for the alpha's possession. It was a natural trait of being an omega, one he hated. His pheromones would go into overdrive, luring the alpha in, and there was nothing he could do to stop it.
His scent washed over Xias first. The air was already growing thick with the heady smell of an aroused male. Earthy, male. Xias’s mouth watered. Nothing had ever smelled this good. That scent sent shivers up and down his spine
The long swipe of the tiger's tongue across his eager opening drew a long groan from Xias. He hadn't been expecting it. His alpha never touched him except to fuck him. He always said he preferred women, but he fucked Xias easily enough, time and time again.
Xias was just another in a long line of leopards forced to cater to the man's obsessive desire to father as many cubs as he could manage. He doubted he'd be the last to be forced to submit to the self-serving bastard, either.
Xias tensed when the tiger came down over the top of him. He was covered from ear tips to tail, the larger cat's massive body weighing down on him. He thought he would be frightened by it, but instead he found himself reveling in the feeling of being safe for the first time in forever, and he didn't understand why he was feeling that way.
His breath rushed from his lungs when he felt something hard and bulbous nudge against his tight ring of muscles. Xias grunted when the tiger pressed forward, sinking his massive cock in to him until he was fully seated.
When he tried to move, the tiger snarled against the tender skin at the nape of his neck in stark warning before pinning him to the floor with the heavy weight of his body. The tiger began to move, thrusting his thick cock into Xias, and Xias gloried in giving away what his alpha said belonged only to him. No one was allowed to touch him, and they were barely allowed to speak to him. The alpha always wanted to be sure the cubs Xias gave him were his.
Their coupling was quick as was usual for felines, but it was ferocious and heated. Sweat dripped down through Xias's fur. Nips were exchanged by both of them, a give and take. The tiger exerting his dominance, Xias resisting until he was forced to give in to the stronger feline. It was the nature of their beasts.
He dug his claws into the dirt floor, grabbing on for purchase as he was slammed into over and over again. His aching hole spasmed from the thick cock pummeling him. Claws dug into his sides, holding him in place. Sharp teeth sank into Xias's shoulder. The bite was painful, but quickly morphed into a pleasure Xias had never felt before.
The teeth embedded in his shoulder went in deeper.
And he loved every second of it.
Xias howled when his body exploded with pleasure as he came without a single touch to his dick. It was hot and heavenly and made Xias want to beg for more.
The tiger slammed into him one last time before stilling, roaring around the flesh in his mouth as he filled Xias with his release.
The tiger’s cock, already impossibly hard and huge in Xias’s ass, pressed forward until the tight ball of the tiger's knot pushed against Xias’s rim, demanding entrance. The tiger growled, as he swiveled his hips to work it in.
The tiger shoved his hips forward, forcing the knot in. Xias whimpered when he felt the spines at the end of the tiger's dick thicken and take hold inside of him. He had heard of this phenomenon, but he had never experienced it before, and he didn't know what it meant. Maybe it was something unique to tigers.
When the tiger's full body weight collapsed on top of him, Xias lay there, panting heavily. He felt worn out, used, and it was wonderful. He could only imagine what the tiger must be like in his human form.
Xias's head began to ache, the pressure at the base of his skull growing steadily stronger. He felt the need to cry out, but he was afraid to. The tiger was sated at the moment. If Xias moved, he could incur his wrath, and he wasn't sure he'd survive that. He knew his cubs wouldn't. He just needed to lay still until the tiger fell asleep and then he could get his cubs and escape out into the cold again.
He must have made some sort of sound because the large furry body pressing him to the ground stiffened. Xias hissed at the loss of contact when the tiger withdrew his fangs and then pulled his cock free once the knot went down. It was stupid, but Xias felt bereft all of the way down to his soul.
He jerked when he heard a voice in his head.
"Well, fuck a duck."

Sunday Spotlight - Adam Charles and EVAN'S WOLF

Welcome Adam Charles back to my Sunday Spotlight series!  He's bringing the final book in his CHANGES series - Evan's Wolf.

****

The final book in the Changes series...

Evan goes to a neighboring pack to help strengthen ties since their alphas have mated. Despite his excitement about meeting new people—and potentially a mate—he doesn’t make many friends right away. Lots of old pack rules have changed recently, and after a suggestion from a fellow beta, Evan begins to wonder if he’s been looking in the wrong place for a mate. He was popular with the omegas in his other pack, but maybe another beta is just the change of pace he needs…

Changes, Book Three

Evan woke up sore, but in the most fabulous way. Reece had given him the fucking of his life with that thick cock of his, and Evan wanted more, even though he preferred to top. If Reece kept fucking him like he had the night before, Evan could get used to being on the bottom.

Or they could find a cute little omega right away so Evan could still get his fill of fucking another. Imagining pounding into another man as Reece took him made Evan sigh. He stretched and rolled over, only to realize Reece wasn’t there. The man came out of the bathroom a minute later, looking a little frazzled.

“What’s up?” Evan asked. He’d expected Reece to look as sated and happy as he had when they’d fallen asleep tangled in each other’s arms.

“You’re about to meet some opponents of the new changes, if you’re up for it. Part of my job includes keeping people from getting stirred up. Over anything. I have to be even more vigilant with our alpha gone.”

“Keeping the peace?”

“Yeah, basically.”

Evan nodded. “Sure. I’ll help.” If Reece was going to face something difficult, Evan wanted to be by his side. As rough and aggressive as he’d been in bed, Reece seemed to have a sweet, tender side as well. Evan liked the combination, and it also made him feel even more protective. Maybe Reece didn’t need protecting the way an omega would, but if they were together any length of time, Evan would not tolerate any mistreatment coming Reece’s way.

“Okay, great. I have some coffee going. I’ll let you get dressed.” Reece left the room.

Evan hurriedly got dressed. He hadn’t had a chance to shower, but he could do that later. He didn’t care if anyone smelled Reece on him. Even though he seemed to have rinsed off, Reece still smelled of Evan a bit. Evan smiled, liking that.

Evan found two travel mugs for them, and they both filled them with black coffee before heading out. They found three people—two men and a woman—standing in the square basically lecturing anyone who would stop to listen to them. All three had dark hair and eyes and very similar features. They looked like they had to be related.

“Who are they?” Evan asked.

“Carson’s the biggest. Then there’s Graham and Raven. Siblings. Graham and Raven were twins, which you know is rare. Makes them feel even more entitled.” Lowering his voice, he said, “Carson’s known for pressuring omegas who resist him. No one’s ever been brave enough to say he actually forced an encounter.”

“So he’s not a fan of the new omega rights because it could mess up his fun.”

“Exactly.”

All three stopped talking and looked over at Reece and Evan. Raven came forward first, scenting the air. “And it’s begun,” she said. “One of our strongest, most virile males is fucking a beta. From another pack. This union will produce no pups, and it might take our enforcer away from us.” She bowed her head slightly. “Even if we disagree, you serve our pack well. Losing you would hurt us, especially with our alpha away.”

“Thank you for the compliment, but that doesn’t make it okay for you to say who I can or cannot fuck. Or mate. If you respect my office and service, you should do the same for our alpha, who wanted all of this.”

“And where is he?” Carson asked. He pointed to his right. “He’s with another pack, letting their alpha dominate and fuck him. Alphas fuck. It is disgraceful for any alpha to bend and submit.”

“But he fell in love,” one woman said, putting her hands on her hips and glaring at Carson. “Some people want that. Love, not just rutting to produce pups or further bloodlines.”

Carson snarled at her and everyone who nodded at her words. “It is disgraceful. And he took his brother with him. Practically gave him to the other pack. Noah was a fertile omega who should’ve been mated and bred long ago.”

A man laughed. “You say that because you wanted him and Thomas denied you.”

“That is a lie!” Carson yelled. “I am the strongest beta here. Who else would be most fit to breed the alpha’s own brother? My suit was in limbo when this other alpha turned Thomas’s head.”

“Wait a minute,” Evan said. “That’s not the way it was. They talked about it. Reflected on it. They were lovers for a time before they ever presented anything to the council. It was no whim. They put a careful proposal together. These changes are for the good of all of us.”

“This is not your concern,” Graham said as he fixed Evan with a glare.

Reece held up his hand when Graham moved toward Evan. “He was sent here by our alpha. He has a right to speak as long as he’s here. We’re all one people despite living in different packs. We have to adapt in order to survive. How can we thrive if we oppress our own kind? Omegas should have been given full rights long ago.” He fixed his gaze on Graham. “I won’t have you harassing our guest.”

“Says the man who reeks of his cum,” Graham said. He took two more steps forward. “You both waste your seed. If you want a stronger mate, there are more than enough female betas.”

“Mating should be about more,” Reece said. “I’d rather fight and work for someone I love than someone I just happened to put a baby in. You can live and fuck how you want, but you won’t poison others against these changes.”

Graham glared at them both as he moved in even closer. “You couldn’t at least choose a beta from your own pack to sate your lust with?” he whispered low enough that only they could hear him. After eyeing Evan a moment, he added, “I know I could please you better than he did.”
