Sunday Spotlight – Lisa Oliver and I Can See You

Welcome Lisa Oliver back to Sunday Spotlight! She's here to share a little from her new release -- I Can See You (The Gods Made Me Do It, 5)

***

Artemas, known as the academic son of Poseidon, spent much of his time trying to work out how the Fates decided who was to be mated to whom. With the fall of his brothers, his father, and others in their close circle, he was worried he'd be next in line and the last thing he wanted or needed was a mate. But his uncle Zeus pulled him away from his studies with a special project for him - the retrieval of a book from an auction. A very special book by all accounts; the only known written record from the god Silvanus, one of the originals who hadn't been heard from for decades. Unable to resist a good book mystery, Artemas agrees to leave Poseidon's library long enough to bid on it.

Silvanus had spent fifty years in deep despair over what was happening to the world. He'd been alone since the beginning of time, and when his depression reached breaking point, he pleads with the Fates to remove him from the tapestry of life. Telling him it was impossible, the Fates agreed to a promise instead. Silvanus would find his mate and the love his heart hoped for. Seeking to regain his book, after it'd been sold at an auction, Silvanus lands in a hotel room, meeting his fated promise face-to-face. Unfortunately, their first meeting was not the romantic event Silvanus had hoped for.

It's soon clear Artemas's emotional baggage wasn't the only threat to their possible mating. A meddling god is on the loose, and when Odin and Loki are ruled out as possible suspects, only one other god comes to mind. Throw in the fact that Thor was due to give birth any minute, and Artemas and Silvanus have to work together in more ways than one. Will Silvanus ever get the time to heal the pain in Artemas's heart, or will the meddling god take everything they have and more?

This is an MM true mates’ story, based on ancient gods. MPREG elements are not the main focus of this story, but a cursing Thor does give birth within these pages. Being familiar with the previous books in this series, and the Cloverleah Pack series will help give context to the storyline.

Excerpt

Poseidon eyed him calmly. “Are you still holding that petty grudge about me and Thoth? For fuck’s sake. You’re better than that.”

“It’s got nothing to do with that.” But as Artemas said it, he knew his reaction against Silvanus had everything to do with that and Poseidon knew it. “Okay, have it your way. It’s got everything to do with the way you and Thoth turned my birth into a full scale feud. You knew he was married, but it didn’t stop you fucking him. He was an academic. He wouldn’t have known what hit him when you poured on the charm. He dumped me. He dumped me because his wife couldn’t stomach seeing him care for or show feelings for the proof of his infidelity.”

“She always was a narrow minded woman,” Poseidon scowled, probably thinking about her. “You’d think she’d loosen up a bit. Times were different then. We were all different then. Fidelity was nothing more than an abstract construct until the Christian religion got their hands on the masses. If Thoth had shown an ounce of the wisdom he was known for, he wouldn’t have married her in the first place. I was not the first man he bent over for and I wouldn’t have been the last.”

“You’re missing the point,” Artemas gritted his teeth as all the hurt from the past came flooding to the fore. “You knowingly seduced a married man on a bet, from Uncle Zeus of all people. I was the result. You weren’t there when Thoth’s wife was subjecting me to the hell of a thousand cuts, you were too busy getting your dick shined by a hundred other people. And then, when Thoth finally took his nose out of a book long enough to realize what was happening, what did he do? Stand up for me? Fight for me? Let his wife know I was worth something? No. He dumped me on your doorstep, and we all know how fucking happy you were about that. Not! I was ten years old.”

“Which was considered nearly an adult at the time. Remember children were working from as young as five in the old days.”

Even now, he won’t admit what he did was wrong. “But I didn’t get put to work, did I?” Artemas raged. “If I had, at least I would’ve seen people aside from the hurt faces of your latest conquests when you kicked them out before the cum you covered them in dried. That was the only way I even knew you were home or that other people even existed. Thoth abandoned me, and you acted like I wasn’t even there. Even the Mer guards wouldn’t have anything to do with me, and why? Because you were fucking them too.”

“I don’t expect you to understand….”

“That’s freaking great, because I don’t understand. I never did. Why was I even conceived? No, don’t answer that. I remember you telling me when I was twelve. You were a mistake.” Artemas could mimic Poseidon perfectly. “A mistake! And you’ve never let me forget it. Thoth couldn’t even be bothered to visit, even when his many wives left him. You were too busy screwing anything with legs or tails to care about raising your son. Never once, in the thousands of years of my existence have I ever felt I was worth more to you than a discarded condom.”

“If condoms were around then, you wouldn’t be here to have this conversation.”

Sunday Spotlight - Lisa Oliver and the Cub and His Alpha (The Alpha and Omega Series, 7)

Welcome Lisa Oliver back to Sunday Spotlight. Today she's haring a bit from her bran new release, The Cub and His Alpha (The Alpha and Omega Series, 7)

Twenty-three year old bear shifter, Daniel Borden had his life crash around his ears at the tender age of fifteen when his parents were killed in a car accident. Struggling to control his shifts during puberty, Daniel left the foster care home he'd been placed in the day he turned eighteen. Thankfully, his parents left him well provided for and he was able to realize his dream—owning a safe place to call his own. Now an international best-selling author, Daniel hides behind his computer, convinced his life is fine just the way it is. Unfortunately, his only vice—a love of wild blueberries—changes his life in ways he'd only dreamed of.

Zeke McIntyre and Ty Hollifield are two Kodiak bear shifters who've spent ten years on the road, looking for their elusive third. Determined to allow the hand of fate to guide them, they end up in a "blink and you miss it" town all because of a white picket fence. Deciding to take the time to stretch their legs and let their long suffering bear forms free, Ty and Zeke spend their days wandering about in their fur in the nearby forest and loving on each other the way mated bears do. Until a brief hint of an alluring scent in the air, guides them to the one they've been looking for.

And you'd think, that would be the end of the story. But it isn't. The older Kodiaks arrival in Daniel's life brings out issues he'd never had to face head on before. Convinced by his mates to attend a writer's conference in Roswell, and unwilling to let his mates down, Daniel has to face the fears that kept him hidden in his lovely house. Will he ever learn to trust the safety that could be found in his lovers' arms, or will he be going home alone?

The Cub and his Alphas is an MMM standalone story that includes minimal violence and some coarse language. Intimate descriptions of the three men together are also included so this book is suitable for adults only. This is a low angst, complete, sweet bear story, although the epilogue suggests a sequel with a secondary character.

Approx 47,000 words (147 pages).

Excerpt

Daniel chuffed as he rubbed his furry back in the long grass, his face turned up to the afternoon sun. Berry bushes, berry bushes as far as the eye could see. Well, they were all Daniel could see, given he was splat dang in the middle of them. Heaven, heaven, heaven, he sung in his mind, reaching out with his long claws to snag the nearest branch. How fucking lucky am I, he wondered as he smashed a paw-load of blueberries in his mouth.

The run was a spontaneous thing. Daniel was, as a rule, a quiet young man who spent most of his days on the computer writing his latest novel. But today the lure of the sunshine, and a nagging feeling his latest book wasn’t going the way it was meant to, saw him taking the four mile drive to his local forest for a bit of a stretch. He had planned on fishing in his furry form, but his nose caught the whiff of ripened fruit and suddenly fish didn’t seem as appetizing to his long bear nose.

La, la, la. Daniel swiped more blueberries with his other paw, well aware his golden fur was being stained blue. Two paw lots, yeah. One lot in my mouth, two lots in my mouth and so much more for me to munch. He could feel the juices smushed under his nose and dribbling down his chin, but with the sound of the babbling creek he’d planned to fish tickling his ear, Daniel didn’t care. He could wash up before he trundled home. The birds were singing, the sun was hot on his fur and the berries were sweet.

Hang on a minute. Daniel tensed and twitched his ears. The birds had been singing, but they were silent now. Seconds later he heard the snap of a breaking twig and the thump of footsteps from a being far heavier than him reverberated up his spine.

Fuck, fuck, fuck, I should have known it was too good to be true. Daniel rolled onto his feet, his fur quivering. Blueberries did grow wild in his part of the world, but what were the chances the perfectly spaced bushes occurred naturally? He was poaching in someone else’s patch and as the thuds got closer, Daniel panicked. He didn’t know of any other bear shifters in the tiny town of Edendale, but that didn’t mean there weren’t any. He barely went out.

The bushes to his right rustled and Daniel didn’t stick around to find out who he’d pissed off. In bear terms, he was still a cub, only twenty three, and whoever was coming was bigger than him – which took some doing but was possible. Never get between a bear and his food. Why his mother’s sage piece of wisdom chose to flow through his mind now, Daniel didn’t stop to find out. Pushing through the bushes to his left, Daniel put on a burst of speed, running blindly back to where he’d left his car.

Hearing a growl behind him, Daniel risked a quick look over his shoulder. Two of them, double fuck. Daniel didn’t fight – ever. He liked to joke he was a lover not a fighter, but he was lacking lover experience as well. And if those two lumbering brutes behind him caught up with him, he’d never get a chance to make his dreams a reality.

Got to get to the car, got to get too… shit. Bursting through the tree line, Daniel could have slapped himself for his stupidity, except his paws were too busy trying to put more distance between himself and the bears chasing him. His brand new bright red Prius sat mocking him on the side of the road. Running towards it, Daniel risked another look back. The massive black bears were just coming through the last of the trees. I don’t have time to fucking shift.

With a lingering whimper as he ran around his car, Daniel took off down the road. His chest was heaving, and the pavement was scorching his paw pads, but Daniel couldn’t afford to stop. He’d come back for his car, his phone, his keys, his wallet and everything else he’d left in his ‘too-small-for-his-bear-form’ vehicle later – a lot later when hopefully the bears chasing him would be gone. I knew I should have bought a truck. It was going to be a long run home.

Sunday Spotlight - Lisa Oliver and Dragon's Fire

Welcome my friend Lisa Oliver back to Sunday Spotlight. Lisa's here to share a bit from her new release, Dragon's Fire (City Dragons, Book 2)

Ever since his father was killed, Samuel Hollingsworth has worked hard to cultivate a meaningful relationship with the dragon half of his soul. Things were going well for a while, and then their mate rejected them, and now his and his dragon’s connection took on added importance as they tried to keep each other’s hopes alive. But it wasn’t easy, being patient, trusting the Fates had a plan for them, when the man they wanted was on the other side of the country and showed no signs of coming back.

Vampire elder and coven ruler Raoul didn’t have time for weakness. He was determined to keep his coven and his city safe and if blood was spilled to get the job done, then he was going to be the one who was spilling it – every single time. Even a chance meeting with his beloved in New York didn’t deter him from his duty. Riding on a dragon’s back might be fun for some people, but he had more important things to do.

But the Fates will not be deterred even when it comes to stubborn vampire rulers older than dirt. A chance kidnapping sets in place a chain of events that test Samuel and Raoul’s fragile bonds to breaking point. When a bomb goes off and everything Samuel and Raoul hold dear is in danger, will Samuel be strong enough to stand by his mate’s side?

Can be read as standalone, but reading book 1 will help readers understand a few of the secondary character’s motivations more easily – such as Samuel’s brother Dirk and his mate Jon.  This is an MM true mates paranormal romance story intended for adult readers. Mpreg elements are included but aren’t the focus of the story line.

Dragon’s Fire Excerpt

“That sounds a lot like Leonard’s truck. Why didn’t he at least knock on the door?” His cousin’s vehicle had a very distinctive exhaust. Opening his front door, Samuel peered out, his view of the road blocked by a crate. “What the fuck? Is this the freaking package Rastin was going on about?”

Wandering around it, Samuel couldn’t see any markings indicating where it had come from. It stood taller than Samuel by at least a foot and was that much wider as well. The only thing on the box was Samuel’s name written in black marker in block letters. “You’d think they’d have stayed long enough to help me get it inside,” he muttered. There were no handles – no way of moving the damn thing, but Samuel couldn’t leave it where it was. It was blocking his front door and he still wanted dinner delivered.

Reaching out, Samuel laid his hand on the box and then chuckled at his foolishness. It’s not as though I’m some sort of diviner able to see through freaking plywood. But even as he thought that, his dragon stirred and whispered through his mind. Use our claws. Quickly.

Samuel’s hands suddenly became huge long claws and his mouth opened in shock. He’d never partially shifted any part of his body before. Quickly, the crate must be opened now.

Trusting his dragon, Samuel used his claws to pry at the edges of the front of the box. The screws holding it down were short, and the wood basically came apart in his hands. The urgency from his dragon was compelling, and with just part of the screws removed, Samuel shoved his claws deeper into the wood and pulled hard, falling backwards as the slab of ply landed on top of him.

“Ow.” Samuel rubbed his head where it’d hit the porch before shoving the ply off his chest. “Shoddy freaking packaging.”

“I quite agree, but then I didn’t think much of the two who kidnapped me either.”

Oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no. Peering up slowly, Samuel met the flashing red eyes of the vampire he’d fallen for, still framed by the remaining sides of the box. Raoul was shirtless, nothing but a pair of sweatpants covering his huge frame. Even his feet were bare, something Samuel found strangely erotic. The Raoul’s words sunk into his beleaguered brain and he jumped to his feet.

“Someone kidnapped you? Please, don’t think I had anything to do with it. I swear, I would never, I could never….” Think, think. “Dirk. I’ll call Dirk.” His older brother would know what to do. “You can have the plane, take the plane. The plane can take you back to San Jose. I’ll get my car. Take you to the airport, or, or, I can call a cab. Oh, fuck. When they said package, I didn’t think they meant… that they’d do… I didn’t have anything to do with this.”

Raoul stepped out of the crate and Samuel prayed the earth would open and swallow him up. His mate did not look happy.

Sunday Spotlight - Lisa Oliver and Bound by Blood

Welcome Lisa Oliver back to Sunday Spotlight. She's sharing a bit from her new release, Bound by Blood.

****

Maximillian "Max" Lipovsky has been Regent of the Atlanta coven for the past six months. His days are full of meetings and paperwork as he does his best to straighten out the mess left during the disastrous reign of Vadim's brother Ermine. With Vadim now happily living in Cloverleah with his mate Josh, it's up to Max to keep his friend's coven happy and safe. Easier said than done. When it is pointed out to him it'd been more than six months since he'd fed from a willing donor, Max decides a night out is exactly what's needed.

Lyle Roberts is tired of being scared, tiny, and alone. But mostly he's tired. When a tall, strong man with flashing red eyes stops him getting beaten up in an alley, he thought he might have found a momentary reprieve from his rotten life. Finding out the man was a vampire, something he'd only seen in movies, Lyle decides to take a chance and asks the man to remove his curse. Only, it turns out Lyle isn't cursed after all - unless you consider having a workaholic mate as a curse.

Lyle's arrival at the coven seems to have brought out the worst in people. As soon as one threat's dealt with, another one rears its ugly head. With the Alpha of the Atlanta pack pushing for a meeting, and vampires turning rogue within the coven itself, Max has his hands full. The only problem is, with his hands full, he doesn't have anything to hold his beloved with. Will Max and Lyle ever find their HEA or will the mating curse strike its cruelest blow of all?

Bound by Blood is a complete standalone spin off story from the Cloverleah pack. Regular Lisa Oliver readers will remember Max from Watching Out for Fangs (The Cloverleah series #7) but it's not necessary to have read that book, to understand this one. Intimate situations and some violence means this book is suitable for adults only.

Bound By Blood Excerpt
“It’s true, I tell you,” Max laughed as he and Dominic left the restaurant. Feeling more relaxed than he had for ages, Max was looking forward to busting out some moves on the nearest dancefloor. “Tobias told me the next day, just after Vadim got married. His friend had bitten him, claimed him, and then ran off to make a phone call to some other guy. What else was Tobias meant to think?”

“And he ended up with both of them. Lucky bastard.” Dominic stilled. “Did you hear that?”

Max tilted his head. “Sounds like a couple of cats fighting in the alley.” He sniffed the air discretely and his eyes widened. “It’s nasty. There’s blood in the air.” Turning, he walked into the dark alley, his eyes flashing red as he scanned for life forms.

“Max, what are you doing? It’s just a couple of cats, for crying out loud.”

“Not just any cats, Dom. Go and get the car.” Max followed the faint hint of blood in the air, drawn to it, mesmerized. He lost it for one minute, as the smell coming from the dumpster flooded his senses, but he kept going. There, in the darkness, were two cats. One black, one who looked as though he used to have white fur, but now that white was matted with blood and what looked like dust and grease. The skinny white cat was holding his own, but the black tom was bigger, meaner, and wasn’t backing down.

Max kicked a stone across the concrete and both cats froze, looking at him. Trusting his instincts, Max crouched down and held out his hand. “Here, kitty, kitty. Nice white kitty. Come on, come here where you’ll be safe with me.”

“What are you doing?” Dominic’s voice sounded behind him and in the distraction the black cat lashed out a paw, swiping the white one across the face. The pained meow tugged at Max’s heart as fresh blood welled up from the scratch. As soon as the tantalizing scent hit the air, Max knew. His long search was over.

“Fate works in mysterious ways, my friend,” Max said keeping his voice low. “Unless my nose is having a major malfunction, that little white beauty is my beloved.”

“Holy fucking shit.”

Welcome Lisa Oliver back to Sunday Spotlight. She's here to share a bit from her new release, My Treasure to Keep (Cloverleah Pack, #12)

Thomas, paid enforcer in the Cloverleah Pack, was carrying a lot of guilt. He still believed he was to blame for letting Wesley get targeted by the dark elves, almost causing a rift in Cathair and Marius's mating. The alpha Kane, told him it wasn't his fault, and Cathair and Marius came through the experience battered but not broken, but Thomas still felt as though he had to prove his worth to himself and the pack. He spends many hours patrolling long after the rest of the pack had gone to bed, determined to do something worthwhile. It was on one of those patrol nights he hears a ruckus outside the territory wards. Dithering as to whether he should help or not, he gets the surprise of his life when his true mate falls right through the magic designed to keep everyone not pack, out.

Ivan was carrying secrets; the main one tucked up in his battered backpack. After a six month long mission to find the Cloverleah pack, he was as surprised as the next man when he fell onto pack grounds and into the arms of his true mate. Unfortunately, other pack members, still emotionally scarred by Wesley's betrayal, didn't view his "break in" quite so favorably and Ivan ends up in the Cloverleah cells.

Meanwhile, the dark elves are getting closer and  more brazen in their efforts to ensnare the Cloverleah pack. Pack tensions are running high and something needs to be done and soon. Through it all, Thomas and Ivan have to navigate their mating and learn to trust in each other. Secrets will hit the light of day and life for the Cloverleah pack may never be the same. As for Thomas and Ivan - time is running out for them too. A chance arrow, a ray of sunshine; will it mean Ivan and Thomas will get their HEA or will they fall at the last hurdle along with the rest of the Cloverleah pack?

My Treasure to Keep is the twelfth full novel in the Cloverleah pack. It is advised to read the previous books to gain an understanding of the secondary characters and main plot lines. This is an M/M paranormal story featuring true mates. Warnings include graphic language, intimate situations, and some violence. Not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Excerpt
It’s got to be here somewhere. Ivan shot another hurried look over his shoulder. The glow from the pack lands he was seeking shone brighter than mother moon, but he’d been running for hours and there was just no way in. Grunts and then a cackle of laughter sounded behind him and Ivan knew he was running out of time.Stupid, stupid, stupid. I should never have stopped at that diner. His loud panting rang in his ears; other prey like rabbits and rodents, hiding like any sensible creature. But Ivan couldn’t stop. The Cloverleah pack was his only hope.
But if I can’t get in, all is lost! Clutching his bag closer to his chest, Ivan tripped and stumbled as he glanced back again. The humans were getting closer. For the millionth time since he’d started on his journey, Ivan wished he could shift. Not until you find your fated mate, sweetheart, you just have to be patient. Gods, he could hear his mother’s sweet voice, and tears pricked his eyes. I’m trying, Mother.
The thump of boots got louder, his hunters not caring that he could hear them coming. Stupid bastards thought it was a game, but for Ivan it was so much more. He knew he didn’t have much time. The crackle of the wards sent tingles over his skin. Ivan could see its glow, even though to human eyes there was nothing there. Please. A weakness, a break, a door, something. Come on guys, how do you get your freaking mail?
A crack of a tree branch right behind him made him stumble. Even though he knew he should keep running, he made the mistake of turning. Shit. They were right there, just ten feet away. Three hugely built males who looked as though they could tear him limb from limb with their bare hands. Black cargo pants, black sweaters, black boots and their faces covered with black balaclavas. Why do all villains wear black? Ivan wondered as he slowly backed up. He knew he couldn’t run much further. The muffin and coffee he’d managed to scrape up the change for was hours before and the only thing keeping him on his feet was adrenalin.
“I haven’t got anything worth stealing,” he said, wincing at the high pitch of his voice.
“You’re one of them.” The tallest one stepped closer. “One of them that live in the cult. Devil’s spawn.”
“Cult? I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Ivan could feel the wards against his back. Fates, please don’t let them give me a zap. “I got lost. I was supposed to meet some friends camping around here. I can’t find them. You haven’t seen them, have you?”
“The only ones out in these woods are you and us,” the guy on the right cackled. “Hand over your bag.”
“I told you, I don’t have anything worth stealing.” Ivan clutched his bag closer to his chest. “I don’t know who you think I am, but you’ve got the wrong guy. I’m just a city boy who doesn’t know how to use a compass.”
“Then you’re no use to us.” The guy on the left pulled out a large Bowie knife from its sheath attached to his belt. Black of course - the belt, not the knife, although the knife had a black handle. “Give us that bag or we’ll take it from you.”
Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. With three men advancing towards him and the wards at his back, Ivan had nowhere to run. There was no way he was giving up his bag while he was still breathing. “Leave me alone,” he yelled as loud as he could, praying someone on the other side of the wards would hear him. “I’ve got nothing you want. I’m just a nobody lost in the woods. HELP!”
The wards crackled across his back, so loud Ivan was surprised his attackers couldn’t hear it. As they lunged towards him, Ivan scrunched his eyes closed. Fates help me, he pleaded as the stench of the men filled his nostrils. His body tensed, waiting for the first blow. A big hand grabbed his arm and he was yanked…back? Electricity prickled across his skin and then suddenly, he was lying on grass, the wards in front of him this time. He opened his eyes to see a tall, well-built without being overly-muscled, naked man standing above him.

Sunday Spotlight - Lisa Oliver and Fagin's Folly

Welcome Lisa Oliver back to Sunday Spotlight! She's sharing a bit from her new release, Fagin's Folly, Alpha and Omega Series, 6

***

Fagin Mars, alpha-heir of his father's pack, had two possible life paths. On the one hand, he could do what his father demanded; mate with a female wolf shifter and take over the pack or...something else entirely. Fagin was opting for option two. After a terse exchange with his father, Fagin gets permission to go on a road trip for thirty days. He wants to find his true mate. It shouldn't be that hard, should it?

Cooper Samuels stayed well away from wolf packs. As an omega, he knew the terrors he'd have to face if he ever got caught in pack territory. Which is why he worked for a human accounting services firm and never told anyone about the furry side of his nature. That was, until he went to meet a prospective new client as a biker bar called Fagin's Folly. He should've known his life was going to change the moment someone barrelled into him and knocked him over.

But just because the Fates stepped in and put these two men on the same path, didn't mean the journey was going to be easy. Things aren't all as they seem in Fagin's home pack and things turn nasty after a night on the town. Kidnappings, challenges and the archaic notions many shifters believed about omega wolves was enough for Fagin to consider handcuffs and not the kinky kind. Will Fagin have to give up his mate so soon after finding him, just to ensure his mate's safety?

Like all of the books in the Alpha and Omega series, this can be read as a standalone and has no connections to the others in this series. Contains some violence, an Omega who quickly finds his backbone and an Alpha wolf who realizes love is worth any sacrifice. M/M, HEA, No cliffhangers.

Crap-sticks. Cooper was alone in a surprisingly clean office big enough for a cluttered desk and three chairs, and a guy whose scent was making it difficult to concentrate. The guy was a wolf shifter and suddenly Cooper was aware of how vulnerable he was.

“I didn’t want to cause any trouble by coming here. I wasn’t aware this place was owned by wolves,” he said quickly. “My boss sent me because the call said you needed an accountant to help file your taxes. I can call someone else to come in,” he indicated the door as he edged towards it. “I don’t expect you to work with me and as you said, you’re going on a trip, so I can just see myself out and tell my boss to call you?”

“Where do you think you’re going little omega?”

Gulp. Was it too much to hope he wouldn’t notice that annoying little fact? Cooper studied his feet. Meeting the man-wolf’s eyes was not advisable. “Leaving? Removing myself from your presence as I’m sure it offends you? I just want to get out of here because I’ve no desire to get my head bashed in, or worse.” Now would be a really good time to shut up.

“We seem to be suffering from a communication breakdown. Please, take a seat.” Fagin’s voice had none of the animosity Cooper was used to from alpha wolves, but now he had another dilemma.

I don’t know your rules. I don’t dare ask. Where am I meant to sit? On the floor? Giving his suit up as lost anyway, Cooper crossed his legs and sat on the floor. It’s not as though the chairs looked comfortable anyway.

“What the hell?”

Cooper held his breath as the alpha’s face came into view. “You called me Omega,” Cooper muttered. “Where I came from, Omegas sit on the floor.”

Fagin growled, and Cooper ducked instinctively. Although it had been ten years since he’d heard the low menacing rumble from an alpha, his wolf still reacted as though it was yesterday. The growl got louder in response and Cooper felt his heart start to pound rapidly and black spots appeared in front of his eyes.

“Please get up. In this office you sit on a chair,” Fagin grumbled. “Or better yet, my lap. Who do I need to kill for causing my mate to cower this way?”

Kill? Mate? That feeling of falling into the twilight zone increased. At least his hardened cock made sense, but Cooper didn’t know how to act around alphas any other way. Years of conditioning made some things instinctive. Focusing on what he could handle, Cooper made to get up but before he’d got his feet under him properly the office door opened and hit him on the ass. He went flying again ñ this time into the corner of Fagin’s desk. Fuck, that hurts, Cooper thought as he crashed to the floor and the lights went out.

“Weren’t you just telling me, I really shouldn’t give a damn what people think?” Fagin’s eyes showed his resolve. “I fully plan on letting you take me one day. Not today, I don’t think either one of us are there yet, but there is going to come a time when I’m not behaving like an idiot and you trust me with all you are. I know I’ve set that back some with my actions over the weekend, but we’ve not known each other long. It will come. I promise.”

Cooper’s mouth was dry, his mind assailed with wicked images a good little omega should never be thinking of. He imagined the taste of Fagin’s skin under his tongue; tracing over every ink stroke engraved there while his cock brushed against the swell of Fagin’s naked ass. He heard a groan and was shocked to hear it came from him. Fagin’s smirk didn’t help matters.

“You’re thinking about it, aren’t you, my delicious little Omega.” Fagin’s fingers burned through Cooper’s shirt and Cooper arched into the touch. “You’re imagining what it’d be like to delve between my ass cheeks, maybe tease my virgin hole with your tongue as you work to make me ready for you.”

Cooper’s eyes fluttered closed and he groaned deliberately this time. His pants were sticking to the end of his dick and his ass begged to be filled. Fagin’s hand behind his neck pulled him closer, and a shiver ran down Cooper’s spine as Fagin licked up and then nibbled down the tendons in his neck. “You can feel it now, can’t you.” The sound of a zipper had never sounded so loud. A slight breeze and a firm clasp around his dick, let Cooper know it was his.

“Your cock sinking into my tight heat,” Fagin’s voice lowered in a growl. “Feeling my whole body clench around you as you thrust deep.”

“Fagin.” Cooper pleaded. He didn’t know what he needed, but fuck, he needed it now. One rip later and his ass was exposed. Cooper pushed his butt out as Fagin’s finger ran down his crack.

“Imagine surrounded by the heat of my body.” Fagin slid a finger deep inside and Cooper cried out.

There was a fumble and a second finger joined the first. Cooper could feel his slick running down his butt and there was a tiny part screaming at him that his suit was ruined. But all he wanted in that moment was for Fagin’s length to fill him, thrust into him, pound into him ñ anything to take away the ache he felt in the pit of his stomach.

Sunday Spotlight - Lisa Oliver and If You Can't Stand the Heat

Welcome Lisa Oliver back to #SundaySpotlight. She's sharing a bit from IF YOU CAN'T STAND THE HEAT.

This story was PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED in the SuMMer Heat Anthology in August of last year (which is now out of publication). This is a re-edited and lightly added to version of the same story and nothing in the story line has changed. Please do not purchase if you already own a copy of the anthology, thank you.

Stone, an alpha wolf and tracker for the council, was on an unusual but easily completed job; all he had to do was pick up a runaway omega and return him to his home pack. It sounded simple enough when he took the assignment, but when Stone catches sight of Wyatt, living in a derelict cabin in the middle of nowhere, he knows his life is about to change.

Wyatt, omega wolf, has been on the run from a forced mating for three years; living hand to mouth, doing his best to raise his four-year-old sister, Maddie. Always watching over his shoulder, scared to interact with anyone, he has no idea how much his life will change when a stranger knocks on his door during a summer storm.

But Wyatt's past isn't about to let him go and when the council gets involved, Stone must do his best to protect the man who stole his heart and the sweet little girl who calls him Uncle. After all, if you can't stand the heat—

This is a short standalone story in my Alpha and Omega universe. 21,700 words. References to intended rape (didn't happen and is off page) may be a trigger for some. M/M true mates shifter story.

EXCERPT

Damn, now he won't even look at me. "Wyatt, what do you know about fated mates?"

"Nothing. I'm mean, I remember mom-mom used to tell me stories when I was little about how she met dad and she just knew he was the one for her. But I've never heard of fated mates before. The alpha decides who is going to mate with whom. I thought all wolves were paired like that."

"In some packs maybe, but thatís not the way it has to be. Come here, please, Wyatt." Stone's arms ached to hold his precious mate again. He held them out, waiting, barely breathing, until Wyatt stepped into his embrace. "What do you feel when youíre close to me like this?"

"Safe." Wyatt inhaled sharply and then clambered onto Stone's lap. "Safe and horny and my wolf's in a tizzy." His slender arms wrapped around Stone's neck. "I feel as though I've known you for a million lifetimes. Why is that?"

His last words ended on a whisper, his breath brushing Stone's face. "Because we're fated mates. Fated mates trump bonded mates, alpha orders and everything else. Fated mates are what every shifter dreams of," Stone growled. "I promise you, right here, right now, I'm never letting you go." Wyatt's whimper tugged at every protective instinct Stone ever had. Pulling his mate closer, Stone gave into the desire he'd had since he first saw Wyatt on the floor. He nudged their noses together, rubbing his cheek against the softness of Wyatt's skin before gently brushing their lips together.

"Oh wow, I never knew—" Wyatt's arms were like a vice around Stone's neck and he pressed his lips harder, his tongue gently caressing the seam of Wyatt's mouth.

"Open for me."

Sunday Spotlight - Lisa Oliver and Liam's Lament

As far as Liam Lamont's concerned, life sucks. His mate disappeared without a backward glance, he spends most of his time drunk and he has the worst case of blue balls in existence. Fighting his lion form is tiring and if it wasn't for his brother Lucien, and the rest of the pack at Ra's, he'd probably run off into the wilderness and never be seen again.

But even if life had thrown Liam a massive curve ball, the Fates hadn't forgotten him. One night a mysterious stranger offers to buy Liam a drink and Liam starts to feel a glimmer of hope. But Theo, the mate who walked away, is still lurking in Liam's heart and when faced with a second mate, Liam had no choice but to tell his new mate about Theo and give him a choice.

Beau Ferris had been told his whole life he would have two mates. All his kind did. His father warned him never to go after one until his pair already claimed each other. But when Beau's animal spirit warns him of Liam's despair and Theo's anger, he couldn't stay away. When he meets Liam he's given a shocking choice - Liam or Theo - he can't have both.

Stubborn shifters, a gorgeous fae toddler with magic flowing from her fingertips, demons, wolves, and even a visit from the Fates; Beau and Liam have to fight through fire before they get their third and the HEA they both dreamed of. But will it be enough.

Liam's Lament is the third book in the Arrowtown series. Reading the previous book in the series is advised to understand the context of this story.

This is a true mates M/M/M story with MPREG.

Warnings include violent scenes, coarse language and love so hot it will set your skin on fire.

“Can I buy you a drink?” A large man leaned against the bar beside him and Liam looked up then, his ready refusal dancing on his tongue. The newcomer was tall, broad shouldered with dancing pale green eyes and short dark hair. His facial hair was trimmed close to chiseled cheeks, his moustache cut with military precision along a thin red top lip. The bottom lip was fuller and curved into a smile. Liam’s cock stirred and he almost fell over in shock.

“I…er…I….”

“You look like you could use a friend.” The man leaned closer. Liam sniffed and all at once his cock went from half-hearted to ‘yes now’. Standing upright, he looked the man up and down. There was nothing to dislike. Worn jeans molded to thick long thighs. The pale green shirt was unbuttoned enough to show glimpses of smooth skin. Liam’s lion roared in his head, eager to get closer.

“What the fuck is happening?” Liam looked down at the prominent bulge pushing at his zipper. “Who…what…no…I…fuck.”

“How about we take these drinks to your table and talk about it,” the big man said gently, scooping up the drinks Cam left for them one handed. The other hand rested lightly on Liam’s lower back, scorching through his shirt as Liam let himself be led to his table. In a daze Liam sat down with a thump and immediately grabbed for the glass.

“Introductions first,” his new companion said softly holding out his hand. “Hi, I’m Beau Ferris and I believe we’re true mates.”

“Liam,” Liam could barely get his throat to work. “My name’s Liam Lamont but you must be mistaken. I have…I had…I met my mate and he rejected me over a month ago.”
