Special Saturday Spotlight - Victoria Vallo and The Dragon's Prize

Due to a scheduling change, we had to postpone this past Sunday's Spotlight post and move it to this weekend. As we have another author scheduled for tomorrow, we're going to have a special Saturday edition this week!

Welcome Victoria Vallo back to Spotlight! She's here to share a bit from the 4th Shifters of Arizia book -- The Dragon's Prize

Matthew finds himself at loose ends when the kind man he’s spent years serving passes away. He has few skills and fewer options, and he soon finds others wanting to take advantage of that. When help comes from the last place he’d have expected, Matthew puts his faith in a man he’s heard dozens of contradictory stories about.

Aiden has always been an outcast. He’s the illegitimate son who was loved more than the legitimate ones, and the fact he’s a dragon shifter and magic wielder makes some fear him and others hate him. He takes a chance when he realizes an old enemy has nefarious plans, and he ends up leaving with Matthew in tow, his heart unexpectedly joyful at the thought of making a new friend.

Surprises find them wherever they go, and soon both of them are wondering if the gods of Arizia are responsible for the winding roads that led them to each other.

Matthew hefted his trunk in both hands and left his room for the final time. He’d eaten breakfast as early as possible, not wanting to keep Aiden waiting. The halls were quiet, almost eerily so, as he made his way down to the foyer.

He stopped short when Olin turned a corner and spotted him. The advocate seemed to hesitate and then he looked around before striding over to him. Yet he kept his distance once they were face to face. Was Olin afraid of what Aiden might do? Part of Matthew hoped so.

Olin gave him a joyless smile. “Proud of yourself, aren’t you? I knew you’d submit easily enough for the right cock. And I hear the dragon has an impressive one, as I’m sure you learned last night.”

Matthew wanted to rush away but found courage somehow. “Don’t talk about him that way. He’s not like you. Nothing like that has or will happen.” The idea of being in Aiden’s bed had lingered with him the night before as he tried to get to sleep, but not because of anything Aiden had done or said.

“Oh, is that so? He’s a dragon, boy. A beast with a taste for rutting and young, tender flesh. They love to collect beautiful things, and I’d bet a golden-haired treasure like yourself just suits his tastes. I’m sure you’ll spend your days draped in the finest silks, your body oiled to gleaming perfection and always ready for his touch.”

Matthew set his trunk down with a loud clink and advanced toward Olin. “Why is it disgusting men like you can’t imagine that anyone in this world is good? He gave away all that money and property. And he helped me without knowing anything about me.”

“He saw you were beautiful and watched you. That’s how he noticed your name wasn’t called.” He crossed his arms. “There was no deal beforehand. I couldn’t prove it, but the look on your face now tells me I’m right.”

Matthew stood up taller and tried to adjust his expression, not knowing if something in his face really had given that part away. Perhaps Olin only suspected and was fishing for information. “He still helped a complete stranger. Why can’t you believe that some people are good? That they want to help others? Vane Reynard had the same good heart.”

“Good heart? Aiden? No dragon has a good heart, and Reynard? He likely desired you as well. Only problem was he became impotent in his last years.” A disgusting smile spread Olin’s lips. “But I’m sure he enjoyed looking at you. Keeping you all to himself, alone in his study.”

“Take that back. Vane Reynard was a good man. Like a father.”

“Everyone wants something, and I guarantee you, that beast only wants you to sate his lust. He will not be gentle as he uses you—creatures like him never are—and he will take his pleasure from every inch of your flesh and then cast you aside.”

Years of submitting to his supposed “betters” and Olin’s revolting words had his blood boiling, and Matthew lashed out before he could stop himself. He slapped the old man, who then came at him and grabbed him by the wrist, squeezing harder than Matthew had expected him to be able to.

“You impudent piece of gypsy trash!”

Time seemed to slow down as smoke billowed around Olin. When it cleared, Aiden stood there beside the advocate, his hand around Olin’s throat. Green scales faintly showed through his skin, and three-inch claws had extended from the tips of his fingers.

“Let go of him,” Aiden said in a voice that rumbled like thunder and seemed to echo the entire length of the hallway.

Saturday Spotlight - Victoria Vallo and His Timid Fox

Welcome Victoria Vallo back to Spotlight.  She's sharing a bit from her new release -- His Timid Fox, the second book in her Shifters of Arizia series.

Viktor accepts a new position in Vane Godwin’s household and immediately meets a man he wants to have in his bed. But this time, it won’t be that easy. Thomas might be attracted to him, but Viktor soon learns the younger man’s heart isn’t free. Or so Thomas says…

Thomas is hurt when his childhood friend Bella can’t see him as anything more than a friend, but he knows life has to go on. His new friend Viktor makes that much easier, starting the day Thomas accidentally spills the details of his heartbreak to the man.

But the gods had a plan when they steered Viktor to the right city, and Thomas feels his heart recovering far faster than he’d anticipated. Thomas has always had a plan in place and every part of his life in order, but the chaos the gods bring might be just what he truly needs.

Viktor enjoyed seeing Thomas smile back at him. Visions of the two of them skinny dipping in the ocean immediately filled his mind, but he tried not to focus on them. Everyone kept telling him how shy Thomas was, so it made him feel good to see the younger man warming to him and opening up so much.

“I love the water, so I try to come down to the beach as much as I can when we’re in a port village,” Thomas said.

“Do you swim as a fox?”

“Not in the ocean. I’m too small. I’d get swept away.”

“I’d come out and save you.”

Thomas smiled again. “As a man or a bear? I think it might panic if you had me in your mouth.” He paused, his eyes going a bit wide, and then he looked forward, possibly hoping Viktor hadn’t picked up on how that sounded.

“As a man,” Viktor said, wanting to tease Thomas but letting it go. I doubt you’d panic if I had your cock in my mouth. Or any other part of you. “I’m too big and awkward as a bear. The currents would be impossible to swim through.” He paused before adding, “Though I once carried a bear cub in my mouth. He panicked at first, but then settled down.”

“What? Really?” Thomas exclaimed, apparently intrigued enough to forget to be embarrassed by his unintentional double entendre earlier.

“Yeah. It was hurt. Its mother dead. But it was scared of me as a man, probably because hunters killed its mother. I shifted to calm it down and took it to a local wise woman. It wasn’t afraid of her. She helped it for a few weeks, and then I helped her get it to an area where it would thrive.”

“Was it all right, in the end?”

“I think so. It seemed happy.”

“Are both of your parents bear shifters?”

“Yes. I have one sister who can’t shift, but all of my other siblings can.” He clasped his hands behind his back. “There are twelve of us.”

Thomas blinked rapidly, his mouth falling open. “Twelve?”

“Uh huh. My parents are pretty fond of each other.”

Thomas laughed. “They’d have to be.” After a few seconds, he asked, “Do you want children?”

“It was constant chaos growing up with so many siblings, yet I’m sort of used to the madness. Never really given it much thought. Guess it depends. Can’t have children with a man, and I do tend to prefer male lovers.” He shrugged. “Guess I’ll have to wait and see. Have to find someone to tolerate me first.”

Thomas gazed at him a long time. “I think you’re being modest. Everyone likes you. The maids are all swooning over you. And like I said, some of the stable hands have been eyeing you.”

“Not the same as living with someone and washing his dirty socks.”

Thomas stopped as they reached the sand, crossing his arms and sighing. “Yeah. You’re right. You have to really be devoted to take that step. Marriage. Family.”

Not wanting to dwell on the subject, Viktor said, “Both of your parents foxes?”

Thomas looked down a moment, but then his expression cleared. “Yes.” He looked over at Viktor. “Thanks, but you don’t have to avoid the subject.”

“Just trying to take care of my new friend.” He sat on a large rock and took his boots off. “What color are you?”

“Very dark red. My mom is a white fox, though. She’s so beautiful. Completely white with just a little hint of light auburn on her face.”

Viktor propped his boots against the rock and began rolling his breeches up as Thomas sat beside him and removed his boots, too. “Sounds gorgeous. Are you from Castile?” Viktor asked.

“Yes, but my grandparents on both sides live in the mountains between the Arun and Mera regions, not too far from Castile. My parents went to the city for jobs when they married.”

“You’re happy in the city?”

“Yes.” Thomas stood and made his way toward the water. “How do you feel about staying in one place for so long? Think you’ll get restless?”

“I think I might, but I’m sure I’ll be busy.”

“There’s always plenty to do, though I hope there won’t be a lot of need for your protection.”

“Don’t try to get rid of me. I’m going to be very well paid.”

Thomas stepped into the water and sighed, the sound much more content this time. “I wouldn’t dream of getting rid of you.”

“Good,” Viktor said softly.

Thomas didn’t look at him, but Viktor saw his expression shift a little.

He even thought he saw a hint of a smile.

Special Saturday Spotlight - Stephani Hecht and Jax's Rebellion

Welcome Stephani Hecht to a special Saturday Spotlight.  She's here to share a bit of Jax's Rebellion, part of her Coalition Training Academy Series.

Jax defies his father and joins with the Coalition’s Academy to train as a future soldier. But, that isn’t the only obstacle in the young Lion’s way. He is small, a dork, and the furthest thing from fighting material. He is determined to not let that get in his way. He vows to prove his father wrong and become an asset to the Coalition.

But, as his world changes, Jax begins to doubt his decision. He’s worthless when it comes to fighting. He has to adjust to life away from home, and his only friend is Ava. Will Jax’s self-doubt be his downfall, or will he be able to overcome it to become the shifter he always dreamed of?

They finally arrived at Mitchell’s office. Noah gave Jax an assuring smile before he knocked on the door. When Jax heard Mitchell’s voice telling them to enter, his heart started beating even harder.

Noah held the door open. Jax walked in. There was a chair in front of Mitchell’s desk. The room was large, and Mitchell’s mate, a Wolf shifter, sat in the back. The Wolf had short brown hair and eyes. He smiled. Jax smiled back, sat down, then looked at his leader.

Mitchell was big, even by shifter standards. He wore the black uniform, which made him seem more intimidating. He had super short brown hair. His hands alone were bigger than Jax’s head. He could have probably snapped Jax in half if he wanted to, but Mitchell’s eyes were kind and welcoming.

Jax had seen the leader before, he had just never had a conversation with him. Jax swallowed hard. This was his first impression, and he wanted it to be a good one, so he sat straight up then forced himself to meet Mitchell’s gaze. He could do this. He had to do this. Failure just wasn’t an option.

“Hey, Jax. How are things going?” Mitchell asked.

“Fine,” Jax lied.

Mitchell probably saw right through Jax, but he didn’t call Jax out on it. Instead, Mitchell folded his hands on the desk then asked, “Have you made your decision? Do you want to be a civilian or a soldier?”

Jax took in a deep breath. The moment he’d been so worried about had finally arrived. As soon as he announced his decision, he wouldn’t allow himself go back.

“Yes,” he said in a slightly shaky voice. “I want to become a soldier.”

Jax held his breath as he waited for Mitchell to respond. The leader’s expression hadn’t changed after Jax announced his decision. He just continued to gaze at Jax. Jax didn’t know if it was a good sign or not, so it did little to ease his nerves. He was beginning to think he’d made a huge mistake.

As the seconds ticked into minutes, Jax’s nerves grew worse. His stomach had twisted into knots, making him even more nauseated. He was then super glad he hadn’t eaten much breakfast. That way if he did hurl, it wouldn’t make as big of a mess. Of course, it would crush his self-confidence. Then again, Jax didn’t have much to begin with, so it would only crush his pride along with his hopes and dreams.

“I’m proud of you. I was hoping that you would join up,” Mitchell said. “I could tell by the way you listened to the soldiers when they came to visit your classroom to talk about the Academy.”

“You noticed?” Jax asked, surprised. Nobody ever paid attention to him.

“It’s my job to know every member of my Coalition, no matter how old they are,” Mitchell said.

“So, you’re not going to try and talk me out of it?” Jax pressed. “I am the smallest one in my class.”

“I have room for soldiers of all sizes in my Coalition,” Mitchell replied. “You’re not much smaller than my brother Andrew, and he’s one of the best soldiers I have. Sometimes being small is an advantage.”

Jax didn’t see how it could be possible, but he kept his mouth shut. He wasn’t going to argue with his leader, especially since he was so huge. Plus, Jax totally respected Mitchell. He’d rather slam his hand in a locker than be disrespectful to Mitchell.

“I’m guessing your parents don’t know you’ve come to this decision,” Mitchell said.

A rush of panic went through Jax, making him tremble a bit. “No. Does that mean you’re going to turn me away?”

Mitchell shook his head. “By our laws, this is your decision alone. They can’t interfere, even if they decide to leave the Coalition in protest.”

Jax smiled. He couldn’t believe it. He was actually going to have his dreams come true, and there was nothing his father could do to stop it. Better yet, he had Mitchell backing him up. Jax felt almost giddy.

“I won’t let you down,” he vowed.

Mitchell nodded. “I know you won’t. Now, get back to class. It will be your last day as a civilian student.”

Excerpt:
Shit! What am I doing here? Why did I go home with a stranger without telling my brothers? Mate or not, I should have talked with him first. I shouldn’t have allowed my cock to rule my head. I’ve never done this before.
Feeling gentle hands cradle his face, Pascal jolted in his seat.
“Easy, Pascal.”
Abner’s deep rumbling voice caught Pascal’s attention, and he tipped his head back, giving in to his mate’s guiding hand, and met his gaze.
His lips curved into a warm smile, Abner continued, “There you are, Pascal. You went somewhere I couldn’t follow, and it wasn’t a good place. Not like the blissful place I’d rather send you. Do you want to talk about it?”
“No. No I don’t.”
Pascal shuttered his gaze and focused on Abner’s chin. He knew he’d answered a little fast, with a little snip in his tone, but defensiveness was a knee-jerk reaction. Pascal didn’t want to talk about his past…especially with his mate.
What if Abner thought he was damaged goods or something?
While Pascal knew the abuse, the physical, mental, and sexual trauma wasn’t his fault, that didn’t mean he wanted to discuss…to relive it…even for his mate.
Abner slid his right hand to the nape of Pascal’s neck. With his other, he threaded his fingers into his hair and gripped it in a light hold. Sweeping his dark-eyed focus over Pascal’s face a few seconds, Abner seemed to assess him.
Pascal held still, unable to meet his gaze. He couldn’t stop or even hide his tremble as he felt Abner massage his nape lightly. Finally, he saw his mate nod once.
“Very well.” Abner released him, his nails skimming over Pascal’s flesh as he did so. “Then we talk about what we want.”
Abner settled on the opposite side of the long sofa, his back to the corner. His left knee was bent on the cushion since he was at an angle, and his right sock-clad foot was flat on the floor. He placed his right hand on his thigh and his left arm along the back. His dark-eyed gazed seemed to settle on Pascal with laser-guided intensity.
“Pascal, I know you are a shifter. A dingo shifter. I don’t have a problem with paranormals in general, but I didn’t move to this coven to be a donor or to be bitten in any way,” Abner began bluntly. “I have a lot of shit going on in my life, and I don’t need the headache of trying to figure out a relationship of any kind.” The thumb of his left hand tapped against the back of the sofa, betraying that he wasn’t quite at ease as he obviously wanted to appear. “With that said, I can see that you are a submissive. It’s as plain to me as the nose on my face. I am a dominant, and would be happy to occasionally play with you. We can set up times to meet and scratch our mutual itch, my need to control and yours to give up the same. Is that something you are willing to agree to?”
With each word Abner spoke, Pascal’s disappointment grew. His mate wasn’t open to a relationship? He also didn’t want to be bitten?
How the hell am I going to bring up being mates now?

Special Saturday Spotlight - Maggie Walsh and Parker's Predicament

Welcome Maggie Walsh back to my blog -- she's here today to share a bit about her new pre-order title, Parker's Predicament.  Since I missed posting this last Sunday, I'm catching up today with Mags!

When Parker came to Sanctuary to chase after his brother, he never expected to find a place he could finally call home, not to mention his mate. Parker is excited to find his mate, but also terrified. Parker left someone special back in San Francisco, who he planned on calling to join him. But now he doesn’t know how his new mate will react to Octavian.
Octavian was worried sick when Parker just up and disappeared without a word, so he hits the road in search of Parker. Then, the residents of Sanctuary, including Julien, become victims of some strange drug, and the alpha is called in. They find out that whoever is behind the attacks was after Parker to begin with. Then, Parker and Maxi go missing, and the only clue is a rancid scent.

Octavian and Julien know that Parker’s demon has found him, and they have a limited amount of time to find their mate before it is too late and they lose Parker forever.

Excerpt:

Julien couldn’t seem to form words in his head right now, and he definitely couldn’t speak any. So, he just nodded.

Parker’s fingers went to the buttons on his work shirt as Octavian’s fingers worked his pants open. Together his two men stripped him of all his clothes and Julien just stood there and let them. He ached to touch one of them, both of them, but he kept his hands at his sides, fists clenched. He only moved a limb when one of his mates moved it for him to discard his clothes.

Suddenly, he stood bare before them and two sets of lips began to explore his body. One in the back and one in the front. Lips caressed, tongues licked, and teeth nipped, as four hands glided over all his exposed skin. Octavian latched onto his left nipple and sucked as he played with the barbell with his tongue.

“I fucking love all these tattoos,” Parker whispered, his hot breath blowing over Julien’s heated flesh.

“Mmm. I just want to lick every one of them, along with every bump and ridge of this gloriously muscled body. And his nipples are so responsive to my touch. It’s very erotic,” Octavian stated, then dropped to his knees.

Julien’s eyes widened and he gasped with the realization of what his mate was about to do. Octavian wrapped his fingers around the base of Julien’s cock, holding his hard shaft out toward his face, then Octavian kissed the tip. “Have you ever had a vampire blowjob before, mate?”

Julien just shook his head. “You’ll love it,” Parker whispered against his neck.

Octavian looked up at him and their gazes met and Julien could see the heat and mischief in his mate’s eyes. Octavian stuck out his tongue, dragging the tip along the underside of his cock from base to tip, then speared it into the slit. Julien’s knees started to tremble as a deep groan escaped his throat.

Octavian reached between his legs with the other hand and cupped his balls, rolling them gently. Then Julien felt two hands on his ass cheeks, spreading them apart. He didn’t want to look away from what his vampire mate was doing, but he wanted to see what Parker was up to. Julien turned his head and looked down behind him, just in time to see Parker’s light brown head move toward him, then a wet tongue slid over his crease. “Fuck!” Julien said through clenched teeth.

“Now you guessed our surprise,” Octavian said with a wink when Julien looked at him again.

Octavian ran the tip of his tongue over Julien’s leaking head, then wrapped his lips around the helmet and began to suck, just as Parker thrust his tongue inside Julien’s ass. His hands shot out and grabbed Octavian’s shoulders. Julien needed something to hold onto or he was afraid his knees would give out and he would fall on his face.

His vampire mate slid his lips down his shaft as his tongue pulsed against the thick vein that ran along the underside. The hand holding his sac gave a little squeeze, then pulled down slightly, causing a whole new sensation to rush through him.

Parker’s hands pulled his cheeks apart wider, and he began to feast on Julien’s ass. Julien had never felt anything so amazing in all his life. He had always wondered what a rim job would feel like, but had never received one. He had always given that pleasure to his former boyfriends, and knew they enjoyed it, but no one had ever done it for him. Even though they had each loved having Julien do it for them, they all said the same thing. It was too yucky, or too taboo. But here was his mate, his Parker, down on his knees, giving Julien one of the best sexual experiences of his life.

Just as Octavian took Julien down his throat fully, and his nose pressed against the curly hairs of his groin, Julien felt a finger slide into his ass. “Holy fucking hell! Yes! Oh gods, yes, mates!” Julien cried out as his hold on Octavian tightened. He couldn’t hold back his pleasure any more. Not only had none of his previous lovers ever eaten his ass, but no one had ever played with his ass or fucked him. Not that he didn’t want it, but because of his size, he guessed everyone always assumed he was just a top.

He had played with his own ass on occasion and even had a few dildos at home that he loved to play with, but this was so much more. As he got lost in his thoughts and what his mates were doing to his body, Parker added a second and then a third finger to his ass, and scissored them, stretching him, as Parker continued to thrust his tongue around Julien’s opening and dip it inside of him.

Octavian’s head began to bob up and down at a steady pace as he sucked Julien hard. Lights flashed behind his closed lids and Julien’s head began to get light. He didn’t know how much more he could take of this dual pleasure, but he didn’t want it to stop. His seed churned inside his balls, aching to be released as the heavy sac pulled up tight against his body.

Julien moved his hands to Octavian’s head and gripped him tight, but not too tight, he didn’t want to hurt his mate. Suddenly, Octavian stopped moving, but kept up the suction on his cock. Julien looked down at him in confusion until Octavian grabbed Julien’s hips and started thrusting him, forcing his cock down Octavian’s throat. Suddenly, he understood what a wonderful gift his mate was offering him. Octavian was letting him take over as he remained still and was the vessel to Julien’s pleasure. Octavian relaxed his throat and jaw, and closed his eyes as he began to caress his hands up the insides of Julien’s thighs.
